  • NSF Civic Innovation Challenge award locations

    E4TheFuture Team Selected for NSF’s “Civic Innovation Challenge” Award

    February 17, 2021 — A project team led by E4TheFuture and UC Berkeley’s Transportation Sustainability Research Center won a $50,000 National Science Foundation award with its plan to develop a mobility hub strategy for Providence, Rhode Island and the Blackstone River Valley. The project goal is to overcome a spatial mismatch between low-to-moderate income housing and area jobs.

  • Clean Energy Jobs: December 2020 Analysis

    January 13, 2021 — Ten months into the unemployment crisis, 70% of the jobs lost in the U.S. clean energy sector have not returned. Although the sector gained 16,900 jobs in December, much uncertainty remains, while COVID-19 cases continued to spike.

    December 9, 2020 — The U.S. clean energy sector gained less than 8,000 jobs in November, with COVID-19 cases rapidly spiking and uncertainty growing. According to a new analysis by BW Research Partnership, the sector added the fewest number of jobs per month since unemployment peaked in May.

  • Clean Energy Jobs: October 2020 Analysis Reveals Sector’s Lagging Rebound

    November 12, 2020 — Despite the U.S. clean energy sector gaining nearly 24,000 jobs in October, it remains particularly slow to rebound from impacts of the 2020 pandemic. According to a new analysis by BW Research Partnership, nearly half a million clean energy workers remain unemployed—a more than 13% decline from early 2020 for this historically fast-growing energy workforce.

  • Clean Energy Jobs: August 2020 Brings Anemic Growth, Worrisome Trend

    September 14, 2020 — Although the U.S. clean energy sector added 13,600 jobs in August, according to a new analysis by BW Research Partnership, nearly half a million workers remain unemployed. The figure represents a more than 14% decline from early 2020 for this previously robust and fast-growing energy workforce. Despite nationwide re-openings, the economic crisis caused by COVID-19 continues to negatively impact clean energy businesses.

    Clean Energy Jobs: July 2020 Analysis Shows Stalled Recovery

    August 12, 2020 — Just 3,200 clean energy jobs returned in July, indicating stalled growth despite nationwide reopenings. BW Research Partnership’s memo this month shows a stagnant trend: More than half a million (511,100) clean energy workers remain jobless as the COVID-19 crisis continues. Cumulative U.S. workforce losses in the clean energy sector remain at nearly a 15% decline compared to pre-COVID-19 levels.

    New Report: Build Back Better, Faster

    July 15, 2020—A clean energy stimulus can create 860,000 U.S. jobs, and add $330 billion to GDP according to our new report Build Back Better, Faster: How a federal stimulus focusing on clean energy can create millions of jobs and restart America’s economy. The analysis shows how $99.2 billion of federal investment in existing programs can quickly return unemployed clean energy workers to every state and add $66 billion to the nation’s economy every year for five years.

    July 10, 2020 — The U.S. clean energy sector added 106,320 jobs in June; however, BW Research Partnership’s memo this month provides compelling reasons to exercise caution before pronouncing an overall upward trend. More than half a million (514,270) clean energy workers remain jobless despite reopenings. When factoring in the modest early-June employment gains, cumulative workforce losses in clean energy still amount to a nearly 15% decline throughout the U.S. compared to pre-COVID-19 levels.

    June 15, 2020 — More than 27,000 clean energy sector jobs were lost in May, amounting to an overall 18% decline throughout the U.S. compared to pre-COVID-19 levels. The latest job-loss analysis from BW Research Partnership is based on unemployment claims. Energy efficiency again is hardest-hit nationwide, dropping by roughly 18,900 jobs in May.

    Apr. 15, 2020 — A sobering analysis of unemployment filings from BW Research Partnership was released today as a memo, in tandem with E2’s Clean Jobs America report. The analysis, Initial Impacts from COVID-19 Economic Crisis, is based on claims made during March.

    Initial Losses Will Spread, Upending Historical Workforce Gains

    “We can project that the clean energy sector has or will lose more than a half million jobs […] in the months ahead if no additional actions are taken to support the industries,” states the memo. “Energy efficiency, the largest clean energy sector, had the most job losses in March” representing “two-thirds of all clean energy job losses.”

    New Paper: Pennsylvania Could Add 30K Jobs by Lifting Artificial Caps on Efficiency Investments

    New ACEEE research supported by E4TheFuture reveals how Pennsylvania could gain at least 30,000 jobs and save $6.4 billion. Families and businesses can save over 90,000 GWh of electricity if proposed House and Senate bills successfully remove caps on efficiency spending.     First-Ever Massachusetts Municipal Utilities Scorecard Published

    January, 2019 — E4TheFuture provided support for the first-ever “report card” of Municipal Light Plant (MLP) performance. In Massachusetts, 41 municipal electric utilities supply 14 percent of all electricity used. The Massachusetts Climate Action Network thoroughly examined key aspects of these MLPs through the lens of clean energy and climate.     MassCEC Announces Community Microgrids Program Awards

    February 21, 2018 — E4TheFuture’s Worcester project was among fourteen selected by Massachusetts Clean Energy Center’s Community Microgrids Program for feasibility study funding. The $75,000 grants will help set the stage for the Commonwealth to “meet a range of objectives, including greenhouse gas emission reductions, economic development, community resilience, energy cost reductions and clean energy integration,” stated Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Matthew Beaton in the announcement.
